My trip to Iceland!

Iceland, a very beautiful volcanic island located between the American and Eurasian tectonic plates. It's easy to see why it's such an attractive destination, between the volcanoes, waterfalls, glaciers, geysers, and lagoons, the geology of Iceland makes it a unique destination.

So when I arrived at Keflavík international airport there was a lot to do.

Reykjavík

I stayed in Reykjavík during my visit. Reykjavík is the capital city of Iceland, and by far the biggest city in Iceland. One thing about Iceland is that it is cold, and while that might sound obvious because it’s literally Ice-\land, I went in the middle of July and needed a jacket, sometimes even 2! Reykjavík however was South enough where the weather was quite nice, even if it was raining constantly. Now I didn’t see too much in Reykjavík, but I’ll share some pictures of the things I saw.

Southern Iceland

Southeast of Reykjavík is the Southern part of Iceland, an area filled with mountains, waterfalls, and beaches. The first major place I visited was Skógafoss, a large waterfall.

Skógafoss

Skógafoss is a medium-sized waterfall in southern Iceland. There was a path of steps to see the waterfall from the top, which I opted not to do.

I even got to see a rainbow at Skógafoss, caused by the mist from the waterfall.

Black Sand Beach

The black sand beach is a beach along Iceland’s southern shore. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find the exact name of the beach, hence the generic name. I did touch the water, and it was freezing. Also, the large rocks on the beach were quite beautiful.

Sólheimajökull

This is a relatively large glacier, which is unfortunately melting away due to global warming. It was quite large, and while I was not able to directly climb the glacier I was able to see it from not too far away.

The Blue Lagoon

A beautiful lagoon a few miles off the coast Iceland, the water was warm in contrast to the cold weather and the area was beautiful. There isn’t much else to say about it.

Miscellaneous

While I visited a lot of Iceland, I’m going to be brief and just mention a few key things going forward.

One of my favorite things were the Icelandic horses, even if they were small, they were quite tame and beautiful. They also had very unique hair.

I also saw a Geyser for the first time along with a mountain from Game of Thrones (a show I’ve never watched). Along with some other beaches and metal plates from the ruins of a shipwreck.
